How to Spread Bet on 888?
If an investor wants to invest in companies like 888 then one solution is to spread trade on the 888 share price.
Looking at a website like Capitalspreads, we can see that they are showing the 888 Rolling Daily market at 167.7p - 168.5p. As a result, you could spread bet on the 888 shares:
Going above 168.5p, or
Going below 167.7p
When financial spread betting on FTSE 350 shares you trade in £x per penny. So, if you invested £3 per penny and the 888 share price changes by 32p then that would alter your profits (or losses) by £96. £3 per penny x 32p = £96.
Rolling Daily Shares Markets
You should note that this is a Rolling Daily Market which means that there is no preset closing date for this market. If you leave your trade open at the end of the day, it simply keeps rolling over into the next day.
If your trade does roll over and you are speculating on the market to:
Increase - then you'll pay a small overnight financing fee, or
Decrease - then you will normally receive a small credit to your account
For more information see Rolling Daily Spread Betting.
888 Rolling Daily - Shares Trading Example
So, if we take the above spread of 167.7p - 168.5p and assume that:
Then you might choose to go long of the market at 168.5p for a stake of £25 per penny.
- You've done your stock market research, and
- Your analysis leads you to feel that the 888 shares will move higher than 168.5p
So, you win £25 for every penny that the 888 shares increase and move above 168.5p. However, it also means that you will make a loss of £25 for every penny that the 888 market decreases below 168.5p.
Put another way, if you were to buy a spread bet then your profits (or losses) are worked out by taking the difference between the final price of the market and the initial price you bought the market at. You then multiply that price difference by the stake.
Therefore, if after a few hours the share price started to rise you might decide to close your spread bet in order to guarantee your profit.
If that happened then the spread, determined by the spread betting firm, could change to 173.6p - 174.4p. You would close your position by selling at 173.6p. So, with the same £25 stake you would make a profit of:
Your profit / loss = (Final Price - Opening Price) x stake
Your profit / loss = (173.6p - 168.5p) x £25 per penny stake
Your profit / loss = 5.1p x £25 per penny stake
Your profit / loss = £127.50 profit
Financial spread betting on shares is not easy. In this case, you wanted the share price to increase. Of course, it might fall.
If the 888 stock began to fall then you could close your spread bet to limit your losses.
If the spread fell to 164.1p - 164.9p then you would settle your trade by selling at 164.1p. Accordingly, your loss would be:
Your profit / loss = (Final Price - Opening Price) x stake
Your profit / loss = (164.1p - 168.5p) x £25 per penny stake
Your profit / loss = -4.4p x £25 per penny stake
Your profit / loss = -£110.00 loss
