How to Spread Bet on the Turkey 30

How to Spread Bet on the Turkey 30?

As with a wide variety of global financial markets, you are able to place a spread bet on indices, like the Turkey 30, to either rise or fall.

Looking at the IGIndex spread betting site, they are giving the Turkey 30 February Futures market at 75000.00 - 75125.00. Therefore, you could spread bet on the Turkey 30 index:
  • Finishing higher than 75125.00, or
  • Finishing lower than 75000.00
On the closing date for this 'February' market, 28-Feb-11.

Whilst spread trading on the Turkey 30 index you trade in £x per point. Therefore, if you decided to have a stake of £0.20 per point and the Turkey 30 moves 100.00 points then that would be a difference to your bottom line of £20. £0.20 per point x 100.00 points = £20.

For short term trading on a range of indices also see Indices Rolling Daily Spread Betting.

Turkey 30 Futures Spread Trading Example

So, if we consider the above spread of 75000.00 - 75125.00 and assume:
  • You have completed your market research, and
  • You feel that the Turkey 30 index will close higher than 75125.00 by 28-Feb-11
Then you could decide to go long of the market at 75125.00 for a stake of £0.10 per point.

With such a spread bet you make a profit of £0.10 for every point that the Turkey 30 index pushes above 75125.00. On the other hand, such a bet also means you will lose £0.10 for every point that the Turkey 30 market decreases below 75125.00.

Looking at this from another angle, should you ‘Buy’ a spread bet then your P&L is found by taking the difference between the settlement price of the market and the initial price you bought the spread at. You then multiply that difference in price by your stake.

Subsequently, if, on the settlement date, the Turkey 30 settled higher at 76139.20, then:

Profit = (Closing Price - Opening Price) x stake
Profit = (76139.20 - 75125.00) x £0.10 per point stake
Profit = 1014.20 x £0.10 per point stake
Profit = £101.42 profit

Speculating on indices doesn't always work out as you would have liked. In this example, you wanted the index to go up. However, it could decrease.

If the Turkey 30 fell, closing at 74185.90, you would end up making a loss and losing on this trade.

Loss = (Closing Price - Opening Price) x stake
Loss = (74185.90 - 75125.00) x £0.10 per point stake
Loss = -939.10 x £0.10 per point stake
Loss = -£93.91 loss

Note: Turkey 30 February Futures spread betting price taken as of 24-Feb-11.
