Editor’s comment: We have now added the City Index prices for some of their most popular markets, please see http://www.cleanfinancial.com/cityindex.php#user…. – note that DFT stands for Daily Funded Trade.

I've been trading spreads since the mid 90s and used city for a good few trades in that time. I'm just not sure if they have ever updated their site.

I care more about functionality than looks and I agree with the mantra "if it ain't broke don't fix it" but once you log into the city site it looks like something from the 80s. Perhaps it's some kind of retro cool.

In their defence City's spreads have been much better in recent years although finding markets is slightly slower than it needs to be.

Editor's comment: Not a bad app (iPhone v2.4.523). There's a risk that they are trying to do too much on a small screen but I quite like the small chart next to the prices.

It's not as user friendly and simple as the Capital Spreads app but you quickly get used to it. Not difficult to see why the City Index mobile app has won a few awards.

Editor's comment: And City Index have now added MT4, according to the firm it is "the most powerful MT4 offering in the market today". On paper, it does look like a decent version of MT4, for details see http://www.cleanfinancial.com/cityindex.php#city_

However, it could be slightly more user friendly. If you already have a City Index spread betting, CFD or FX account you need to apply separately for the City Index MT4 account. I was hoping to log into my spreads account and quickly add the MT4 account. No such luck.

Editor's comment: And City Index win another award for their trading apps. This time it's the Shares Magazine award for 'Best Mobile/Tablet Trading App'.
