If an investor wants to invest in European companies like Veolia Environnement then one solution could be to place a spread bet on the Veolia Environnement share price.

- Rising higher than €22.00, or
- Falling lower than €21.94
Whilst financial spread trading on French shares you trade in £x per cent. As a result, if you decided to have a stake of £6 per cent and the Veolia Environnement share price changes by €0.05 then that would alter your profit/loss by £30. £6 per cent x €0.05 = £30.

Veolia Environnement Rolling Daily - French Equities Spread Trading Example
If we consider the spread of €21.94 - €22.00 and make the assumptions:
- you have done your analysis of the markets, and
- you think that the Veolia Environnement share price looks like it will push higher than €22.00
then you may buy at €22.00 and invest £3 per cent.
With such a spread bet you win £3 for every cent that the Veolia Environnement shares move above €22.00. Nevertheless, such a bet also means that you will make a loss of £3 for every cent that the Veolia Environnement market moves lower than €22.00.
Put another way, if you ‘Buy’ a spread bet then your profits are found by taking the difference between the closing price of the market and the price you bought the spread at. You then multiply that price difference by the stake.
With this in mind, if after a few sessions the share price moved higher then you might want to close your spread bet in order to secure your profit.
So if the market moved up then the spread might change to €22.31 - €22.37. To close your position you would sell at €22.31. As a result, with the same £3 stake your profit would be:
Profit = (Final Price - Initial Price) x stake
Profit = (€22.31 - €22.00) x £3 per cent stake
Profit = €0.31 x £3 per cent stake
Profit = 31c x £3 per cent stake
Profit = £93 profit
Trading shares is not easy. In this case, you had bet that the share price would go up. However, it could go down.
If the Veolia Environnement shares fell then you could choose to close your position in order to restrict your losses.
So if the market pulled back to €21.71 - €21.77 you would close your spread bet by selling at €21.71. If so, this would result in a loss of:
Loss = (Final Price - Initial Price) x stake
Loss = (€21.71 - €22.00) x £3 per cent stake
Loss = -€0.29 x £3 per cent stake
Loss = -29c x £3 per cent stake
Loss = -£87 loss
