UK Share Trading

FTSE 100 dropped 1.1% to settle at 5,450.7.
Polymetal International gained 1.3%, in line with a rise in gold prices, and after Nomura upgraded the stock by to “Buy” from “Reduce”.
Vodafone rose 0.6%, after Barclays initiated coverage on the stock with an “overweight” rating.
Utilities, Centrica, Severn Trent, United Utilities Group and National Grid added between 0.2% and 0.5%, as investors opted defensive sectors stocks as risk appetite waned.
Shire plunged 11.3%, after the US FDA unexpectedly approved the first generic version of its Adderall XR hyperactivity treatment.
Evraz, Kazakhmys and Rio Tinto dropped between 3.7% and 5.0%, amid continued global macroeconomic uncertainty.
Financial sector stock, Aviva, Barclays and Lloyds Banking Group fell between 3.1% and 4.2%, as risk appetite decreased among investors.
