UK Share Trading
- FTSE 100 edged down 0.2% to settle at 5,728.6.
- Vedanta Resources gained 4.7%, after the company announced that its subsidiary, Cairn India, had begun pumping at a site in Rajasthan, India.
- ICAP gained 4.1%, after Bank of America Merrill Lynch stated that the stock was “significantly undervalued”.
- Marks and Spencer rose 2.4%, after data showed that UK retail sales rose 0.6% in December after falling 0.5% in the previous month
- Weir Group retreated 6.0%, amid worries over its business sustainability.
- Petrofac slipped 4.3%, after JP Morgan Cazenove downgraded its rating on the stock to “Neutral” from “Overweight”.
- Among energy stocks, Royal Dutch Shell B, BG Group and BP fell between 1.6% and 3.1%, as Credit Suisse slashed its earnings estimate on the global ‘Integrated Oils’ sector.
- Miners, Antofagasta and Glencore declined 1.9% and 1.6%, respectively, tracking a fall in base metal prices.
