UK Share Trading
- FTSE 100 retreated 0.9% to settle at 5,758.1.
- Next rose 2.6%, after the company reaffirmed its full-year guidance.
- British Sky Broadcasting Group added 1.5%, after the company reported a 20.0% rise in its operating profit.
- Financial sector stocks, Barclays, Lloyds Banking Group and Man group lost between 3.1% and 5.6%, as risk appetite decreased amongst investors.
- Standard Chartered fell 3.9%, after the company stated that operating profit in the first quarter increased by a “low double-digit” rate from a year earlier.
- Miners, Kazakhmys, Vedanta Resources and Antofagasta dropped between 2.6% and 3.1%, in line with a fall in base metal prices.
- Xstrata declined 3.0%, as the stock traded ex-dividend.
- Fresnillo dropped 2.7%, tracking lower silver prices.
