UK Share Trading
- FTSE 100 edged up 0.2% to settle at 5,483.8.
- Precious metal stocks, Fresnillo and Randgold Resources rallied 4.1% and 2.1%, respectively, in line with a rise in gold prices.
- SSE rose 2.1%, following positive comments from Barclays and Exane BNP Paribas.
- Miners, Anglo American and Antofagasta, added 1.7% and 1.6%, respectively, tracking higher copper prices in the London session.
- Xstrata and Glencore International sank 5.2% and 3.2%, respectively, amid mounting concerns that shareholders would block the former’s merger with the latter.
- Man Group lost 3.4% after Barclays trimmed its price target on the stock by 25.0%. The stock also fell, as its benchmark AHL fund decline 1.7% during the week of Spain’s banking bailout as it adopted a strategy of buying bonds while shorting stocks and metals.
- IMI fell 2.9% and led engineering sector lower, following a profit warning from its European peer, SKF.
- J Sainsbury dropped 2.6%, after the company’s revenue at stores open at least a year fell short of market estimates.
