How to Spread Bet on Irish Shares - Total Produce Rolling Daily
If you decide to invest in European companies like Total Produce then one solution could be spread betting on the Total Produce share price.
If an investor was to look at the InterTrader trading site, they are currently valuing the Total Produce Rolling Daily market at €0.39 - €0.42. Therefore, you could spread bet on the Total Produce shares:
- Going higher than €0.42, or
- Going lower than €0.39
When financial spread betting on Irish shares you trade in £x per cent. As a result, if you choose to risk £20 per cent and the Total Produce share price changes by €0.05 then that would alter your P&L by £100. £20 per cent x €0.05 = £100.

- Increase - then you will pay a small overnight financing fee, or
- Decrease - then you will often receive a small payment to your account

Total Produce Rolling Daily - Irish Shares Spread Betting Example
If you think about the spread of €0.39 - €0.42 and assume:
- you have done your market research, and
- you feel that the Total Produce shares will increase and move higher than €0.42
then you might decide that you want to buy a spread bet at €0.42 and invest £15 per cent.
Therefore, you make a profit of £15 for every cent that the Total Produce shares push above €0.42. Nevertheless, such a bet also means that you will make a loss of £15 for every cent that the Total Produce market falls lower than €0.42.
Put another way, should you buy a spread bet then your P&L is worked out by taking the difference between the final price of the market and the initial price you bought the market at. You then multiply that difference in price by the stake.
Therefore, if after a few sessions the shares started to increase then you might think about closing your trade in order to secure your profit.
So if the market increased then the spread might move to €0.50 - €0.53. In order to close your spread bet you would sell at €0.50. As a result, with the same £15 stake you would make a profit of:
Profit = (Closing Value - Initial Value) x stake
Profit = (€0.50 - €0.42) x £15 per cent stake
Profit = €0.08 x £15 per cent stake
Profit = 8c x £15 per cent stake
Profit = £120 profit
Speculating on equities spread betting can fail to go to plan. In this case, you wanted the share price to increase. Nevertheless, the share price could fall.
If the Total Produce share price had fallen then you could choose to close your trade in order to restrict your losses.
So if the spread pulled back to €0.35 - €0.38 then you would close your trade by selling at €0.35. This would result in a loss of:
Loss = (Closing Value - Initial Value) x stake
Loss = (€0.35 - €0.42) x £15 per cent stake
Loss = -€0.07 x £15 per cent stake
Loss = -7c x £15 per cent stake
Loss = -£105 loss
