Weekly Market Review: 27 July 2009
Equity markets traded higher for the second week in a row with bullish sentiment soaring at the moment. Earnings beats helped with nine of the ten Dow components reporting last week beating analyst expectations. The Dow Jones closed at a 2009 high of 9103, smashing through the 9,000 barrier.
Forex
The "riskier" currencies finished up last week with EUR/USD up 0.8% at $1.4213.
Commodities
Crude Oil also underwent a significant rally as Brent Crude Oil had five straight winning days, finishing up 7.8% up overall. With no extraordinary shifts in the supply and demand, it would appear that broader economic confidence and the rally in equities is spurring on prices.
