Rugby World Cup Tournament - Championship Index

In this market points are awarded to the teams who end the event in the top positions.

For the Rugby World Cup, Sporting Index award 100 points to the Winner, 80pts for the Runner-up, 60pts for Third place, 50pts for Forth place, 25pts to any team that loses in the Quarter Final, 10pts to any team that finishes 3rd in Group stage, 5pts for finishing 4th in the Group Stage and 0pts for Last place.

Therefore looking at Thursday’s prices England were 39 to 42pts. This reflects the bookies opinion that they think England are likely to finish forth or lose in the Quarters.

If you believed England would do better than losing in the quarters, you might bet high at 42 points for £5 per point.

Had the England Rugby Team ended up being the Runner-up you would have won 38 times your stake.

(80 - 42) x your stake = 38 points x £5 per point = £190

Even if they came forth you still would have made a profit. A team finishing forth is awarded 50pts and if you bought at 42pts you would win 8 times your stake.

(50 - 42) x your stake = 8 points x £5 per point = £40

Of course England could get knocked out in the quarters in which case you would lose.

(25 - 42) x your stake = -17 points x £5 per point = -£85
