  • RBS – Co., subject of the world’s biggest bank bailout, has the largest pension deficit relative to its market value out of UK finance firms in the FTSE 350 index. (BBG)

  • AstraZeneca – Co. did not accurately describe the side-effects of antipsychotic drug Seroquel in an advertisement to doctors, a UK regulatory panel ruled. (Times)

  • BHP Billiton/Rio Tinto – World Steel Association head says cos. JV may attract attention of Chinese anti-trust officials. (RTRS)

  • British Airways – Pension deficits narrowed among British companies during 2009, but the overall improvement masks yawning liabilities at some notable names including co. (RTRS)

  • Anglo American – Co. to decide on Peru mine in H2, may invest USD 3bn in Quellaveco mine says co.’s CEO Carroll. (BBG)

  • Aviva – Co. eyes to acquire Russian insurance companies. (Moscow Times)

  • Antofagasta – Co.’s FY net USD 667.7m vs. Exp. USD 686m, and FY sales USD 2.96bn vs. Prev. USD 3.37bn. Co.’s total dividend for the year USD 0.234 vs. Prev. USD 0.60. Co. says quake to have limited effect on activities. (BBG)

  • International Power – Co.’s 2009 net income GBP 996m, and FY dividend GBP 0.1253 per share. Co. is well positioned for any market recovery. (BBG)

  • Liberty International – Co.’s FY adjusted EPS GBP 0.183 vs. Prev. GBP 0.29; FY dividend GBP 0.165. Co. reports its intention to separate. (BBG)

  • Inmarsat – Co.’s Q4 EBITDA USD 119.7m vs. Prev. USD 101.4m a year earlier, and Q4 sales rise 13% to USD 181.5m. Co. says enters 2010 with sales growth momentum. (BBG)

Equities did not have any real direction on Monday due to a lack of any notable US economic data or even speakers.

The NASDAQ 100 outperformed for much of the session with Cisco (+3.65%) and Research in Motion (+5.6%) shares leading the gainers in the index following broker upgrades.

Elsewhere, the financial sector outperformed in the S&P 500 after AIG (+3.63%) sold its Alico unit to Metlife (5.09%) for around USD 15.5bn.

At the close; the S&P 500 closed down 0.02% at 1138.50, the DJIA closed down 0.13% at 10552.52 and the NASDAQ 100 closed up 0.12% at 1890.89.
  • Boeing/Northrop Grumman – Northrop Grumman won’t bid for the US military aerial refuelling tanker program, said Representative Norm Dicks on Monday. (BBG)

  • Merck – Co. was sued by a wholesaler alleging the co. wrongly extended the term of a patent for Temodar in restraint of trade. (BBG)

  • Cisco Systems – Co. to unveil new tools for high speed networks today. (CNBC)

  • Texas Instruments – Co. sees Q1 EPS USD 0.48-0.52, previously USD 0.44-0.52 vs. Exp. USD 0.49 and sees Q1 revenue USD 3.07-3.19bn, previously USD 2.95-3.19bn vs. Exp. 3.09bn. (BBG)

  • Verizon – Co.’s CFO Killian sees 2010 capex USD 16.8-17.2bn. (Sources)

  • WellPoint – Co.’s Anthem Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Connecticut may constrain competition through contracts that require that the insurer receives hospital discounts at least as favourable as any provided to a competitor, according to state Attorney General. (BBG)

  • Siemens – Co. expects joint venture agreement with Sinara within months. (Sueddeutsche Zeitung)

  • Deutsche Telekom – Co. is in talks to buy the stake in internet payment service Clickandbuy that it doesn’t already own. (FT Deutschland)

  • Deutsche Post – Co.’s 2009 net income EUR 644m vs. Exp. EUR 959.4m; 2009 sales EUR 46.2bn vs. Exp. EUR 47.2bn, and co. will propose a dividend of EUR 0.60 for 2009. Co.’s Q4 net loss EUR 283m vs. Prev. loss of more than EUR 3bn, and says Q4 loss due to restructuring and one-offs. Co. expects higher operating profit in 2010 and 2011, and says it exceeds forecasts for 2009. Co. also says negative revenue trend halted in Q4. (BBG)

  • Lufthansa – Pilot’s Union VC says has not reached agreement with co., says further talks with co. planned this week. (RTRS)

  • Total – Co. said it has been approached by several industry players interested in its refining assets. (Sources)

  • Sanofi-Aventis – Co. and Merck to create animal health joint venture. Co. will pay Merck USD 250m to establish 50/50 ownership, to pay additional USD 750m under July agreement. Co. and Merck say deal to be completed in next 12 months after antitrust reviews. (RTRS)

  • Axa – Co. CEO says AXA Investment Managers is well-placed despite pressures from industry consolidation and assets outflows. (Sources)

  • EADS – Co.’s 2009 net loss EUR 763m vs. Exp. loss EUR 375m, and FY revenue EUR 42.8bn vs. Prev. EUR 43.3bn. Co. says no dividend payment recommended. Co.’s 2009 results had negative EUR 2.5bn exchange rate hit. Co. also says Airbus to deliver up to the same number of planes in 2010 vs. 2009, and sees revenues be roughly stable in 2010. Co.’s CEO says on basis of 2010 guidance expects co. to return to dividend for current year, and the group is not considering bidding alone for US tanker contract. (BBG/RTRS)
