How to Spread Bet on Dutch Shares - Randstad Rolling Daily
Should an investor decide to invest in European companies such as Randstad then one solution could be spread betting on the Randstad share price.
Looking at the Inter Trader spread trading website, they are giving the Randstad Rolling Daily market at €31.42 - €31.50. As a result, an investor can spread bet on the Randstad shares:
- Moving higher than €31.50, or
- Moving lower than €31.42
When spread betting on Dutch equities you trade in £x per cent. As a result, if you decide to invest £4 per cent and the Randstad share price moves €0.05 then that would change your bottom line by £20. £4 per cent x €0.05 = £20.
You are also able to invest in this market in Dollars or Euros, e.g. $x per cent.
Rolling Daily Equities Markets
It is important to note that this is a Rolling Daily Market and so it does not have a closing date. Should your trade be left open at the end of the trading day, it will simply roll over to the next session.
If you do roll over a trade and you are spread betting that the market will:
- Move up - then you will normally be charged a small financing fee, or
- Move down - then a small payment is often credited to your account

Randstad Rolling Daily - Dutch Equities Spread Trading Example
If you consider the above spread of €31.42 - €31.50 and make the assumptions that:
- you have analysed the equities market, and
- you think that the Randstad share price is likely to rise higher than €31.50
then you might decide that you want to go long of the market at €31.50 for a stake of £2 per cent.
With such a bet you win £2 for every cent that the Randstad shares increase and go above €31.50. On the other hand, such a bet also means you will make a loss of £2 for every cent that the Randstad market decreases lower than €31.50.
Put another way, if you were to buy a spread bet then your profit/loss is calculated by taking the difference between the final price of the market and the price you bought the spread at. You then multiply that price difference by the stake.
If after a few days the stock moved higher then you might want to close your position in order to secure your profit.
As an example, if the market increased then the spread, determined by the spread betting firm, could change to €32.21 - €32.29. In order to close your trade you would sell at €32.21. As a result, with the same £2 stake you would calculate your profit as:
P&L = (Settlement Price - Opening Price) x stake
P&L = (€32.21 - €31.50) x £2 per cent stake
P&L = €0.71 x £2 per cent stake
P&L = 71c x £2 per cent stake
P&L = £142 profit
Trading shares, by spread betting or otherwise, can work against you. In the above example, you wanted the share price to rise. Nevertheless, it can also decrease.
If the Randstad share price began to fall then you might decide to settle/close your trade to limit your losses.
Should the market pull back to €30.87 - €30.95 then you would settle your trade by selling at €30.87. That would mean you would make a loss of:
P&L = (Settlement Price - Opening Price) x stake
P&L = (€30.87 - €31.50) x £2 per cent stake
P&L = -€0.63 x £2 per cent stake
P&L = -63c x £2 per cent stake
P&L = -£126 loss

Where can I Find Candlestick Charts for Randstad?
