How to Spread Bet on German Shares - MAN Rolling Daily
If an investor decides to invest in European companies such as MAN then one solution could be spread betting on the MAN share price.
If you were to look at the Tradefair website, they are valuing the MAN Rolling Daily market at €80.47 - €80.69. Therefore, you can spread trade on the MAN shares:
- Moving higher than €80.69, or
- Moving lower than €80.47
When spread betting on German equities you trade in £x per cent. As a result, if you invest £2 per cent and the MAN shares move €0.05 then there would be a difference to your P&L of £10. £2 per cent x €0.05 = £10.
Note that you are also able to invest in this market in Dollars or Euros, e.g. €x per cent.
Rolling Daily Shares Markets
Be aware that this is a Rolling Daily Market which means that there is no closing date for this market. You do not have to close your trade, should it still be open at the end of the trading day, it will roll over to the next trading day.
If your spread bet is rolled over and you are speculating that the market will:
- Go up - then you will usually be charged a small overnight financing fee, or
- Go down - then you will often receive a small payment to your account

MAN Rolling Daily - German Shares Spread Trading Example
If you think about the above spread of €80.47 - €80.69 and assume that:
- you have done your market analysis, and
- you think that the MAN shares look like they will move higher than €80.69
then you could buy a spread bet at €80.69 and risk, for the sake of argument, £1 per cent.
Therefore, you make a profit of £1 for every cent that the MAN shares increase and go above €80.69. On the other hand, it also means you will make a loss of £1 for every cent that the MAN market moves below €80.69.
Looking at this from another angle, if you were to ‘Buy’ a spread bet then your profits (or losses) are worked out by taking the difference between the final price of the market and the initial price you bought the spread at. You then multiply that difference in price by the stake.
As a result, if after a few days the share price started to move upwards then you could choose to close your spread bet in order to lock in your profit.
As an example, should the market rise, the spread could change to €81.90 - €82.12. You would close/settle your spread bet by selling at €81.90. Accordingly, with the same £1 stake you would calculate your profit as:
Your Profits (or losses) = (Final Price - Initial Price) x stake
Your Profits (or losses) = (€81.90 - €80.69) x £1 per cent stake
Your Profits (or losses) = €1.21 x £1 per cent stake
Your Profits (or losses) = 121c x £1 per cent stake
Your Profits (or losses) = £121 profit
Spread betting on shares is not always straightforward. With this example, you had bet that the share price would go up. Of course, the share price can also decrease.
If the MAN stock dropped then you might decide to settle/close your trade in order to restrict your losses.
If the market fell to €79.64 - €79.86 then this means you would close your position by selling at €79.64. This would result in a loss of:
Your Profits (or losses) = (Final Price - Initial Price) x stake
Your Profits (or losses) = (€79.64 - €80.69) x £1 per cent stake
Your Profits (or losses) = -€1.05 x £1 per cent stake
Your Profits (or losses) = -105c x £1 per cent stake
Your Profits (or losses) = -£105 loss

Where can I Find Candlestick Charts for MAN?
