How to Spread Bet on German Shares - Linde Rolling Daily
Should you decide to invest in European listed companies such as Linde then one solution could be spread trading on the Linde share price.
Looking at the FinancialSpreads spread trading site, they are currently showing the Linde Rolling Daily market at €103.44 - €103.71. Therefore, you could spread trade on the Linde share price:
- Going above €103.71, or
- Going below €103.44
Whilst spread betting on German shares you trade in £x per cent. So, if you decided to invest £2 per cent and the Linde share price changes by €0.05 then that would change your P&L by £10. £2 per cent x €0.05 = £10.
Note that you can also invest in this market in Euros or Dollars, e.g. €x per cent.
Rolling Daily Equities Markets
One thing to note is that this is a Rolling Daily Market which means that it does not have a set settlement date. If your trade is still open at the end of the trading day, it simply rolls over to the next session.
If a trade is rolled over and you are spread betting on the market to:
- Move up - then you normally pay a small overnight financing fee, or
- Move down - then you will often receive a small payment to your account

Linde Rolling Daily - German Shares Spread Betting Example
Now, if we consider the spread of €103.44 - €103.71 and assume that:
- you have done your analysis, and
- you think that the Linde share price looks like it will increase and go higher than €103.71
then you might choose to go long of the market at €103.71 for a stake of, for the sake of argument, £1 per cent.
Therefore, you make a profit of £1 for every cent that the Linde shares push above €103.71. However, you will make a loss of £1 for every cent that the Linde market falls below €103.71.
Considering this from another angle, if you were to ‘Buy’ a spread bet then your P&L is found by taking the difference between the final price of the market and the initial price you bought the market at. You then multiply that price difference by the stake.
As a result, if after a few trading sessions the share price rose then you might want to close your spread bet and therefore guarantee your profits.
As an example, should the market rise, the spread, determined by the spread betting firm, could change to €105.37 - €105.64. You would close your spread bet by selling at €105.37. Therefore, with the same £1 stake this trade would make you a profit of:
Profit / loss = (Settlement Value - Opening Value) x stake
Profit / loss = (€105.37 - €103.71) x £1 per cent stake
Profit / loss = €1.66 x £1 per cent stake
Profit / loss = 166c x £1 per cent stake
Profit / loss = £166 profit
Trading equities, whether by spread betting or otherwise, can fail to go to plan. In this case, you had bet that the share price would rise. However, it could fall.
If the Linde shares dropped then you might decide to settle/close your position in order to limit your losses.
Should the spread drop to €102.21 - €102.48 then you would close your trade by selling at €102.21. So your loss would be calculated as:
Profit / loss = (Settlement Value - Opening Value) x stake
Profit / loss = (€102.21 - €103.71) x £1 per cent stake
Profit / loss = -€1.50 x £1 per cent stake
Profit / loss = -150c x £1 per cent stake
Profit / loss = -£150 loss

Where can I Find Candlestick Charts for Linde?
Like live prices, if you want to access candlestick charts for German shares then you generally need to open an account with a spread betting company that offers German shares. Note that accounts are subject to status.

You can usually alter the charts to see market data by the tick, by the minute, by the hour, by the week etc. There are also other options that allow you to easily add analysis such as Moving Averages and Bollinger Bands.
