How to Spread Bet on Kazakhmys

How to Spread Bet on Kazakhmys?

If an investor is looking to speculate on UK listed companies such as Kazakhmys then one option could be to place a spread bet on the Kazakhmys share price.

Looking at Inter Trader, we can see they are currently pricing the Kazakhmys Rolling Daily market at 763.6p - 765.4p. Therefore, an investor can spread trade on the Kazakhmys share price:

Kazakhmys Spread Trading Example Moving higher than 765.4p, or
Kazakhmys Trading Example Moving lower than 763.6p

Whilst spread betting on UK equities you trade in £x per penny. Therefore, should you decide to invest £3 per penny and the Kazakhmys share price moves 23p then that would be a difference to your profits (or losses) of £69. £3 per penny x 23p = £69.

Rolling Daily Equities Markets

Be aware that this is a Rolling Daily Market and so it does not have a closing date. If a trade is still open when the markets close at the end of the day, it just rolls over into the next day.

If a trade is rolled over and you are spread betting on the market to:

Kazakhmys Trading Example Move up - then you'll be charged a small overnight financing fee, or
Kazakhmys Trading Example Move down - then you will normally receive a small credit to your account

To find out more about Rolling Daily Markets read our feature Rolling Daily Spread Betting.

Kazakhmys Rolling Daily - Shares Trading Example

Now, if we think about the above spread of 763.6p - 765.4p and assume:
  • You have done your analysis of the markets, and
  • You think that the Kazakhmys share price looks like it will go higher than 765.4p
Then you could buy at 765.4p and invest, let’s say, £5 per penny.

With such a bet you win £5 for every penny that the Kazakhmys shares increase and go above 765.4p. However, such a bet also means that you will make a loss of £5 for every penny that the Kazakhmys market goes below 765.4p.

Put another way, if you ‘Buy’ a spread bet then your profit/loss is worked out by taking the difference between the settlement price of the market and the price you bought the market at. You then multiply that price difference by the stake.

As a result, if after a few trading sessions the stock started to increase then you might think about closing your position so that you can secure your profit. Taking this a step further, if the market did go up then the spread might move to 796.0p - 797.8p. To close your trade you would sell at 796.0p. So, with the same £5 stake you would calculate your profit as:

Your profits (or losses) = (Final Level - Initial Level) x stake
Your profits (or losses) = (796.0p - 765.4p) x £5 per penny stake
Your profits (or losses) = 30.6p x £5 per penny stake
Your profits (or losses) = £153.00 profit

Speculating on equities is not easy. In this example, you had bet that the share price would increase. Nevertheless, it can also fall.

If the Kazakhmys share price had started to fall then you might choose to close your position in order to restrict your losses.

If the market dropped to 738.2p - 740.0p then this means you would settle your trade by selling at 738.2p. This would result in a loss of:

Your profits (or losses) = (Final Level - Initial Level) x stake
Your profits (or losses) = (738.2p - 765.4p) x £5 per penny stake
Your profits (or losses) = -27.2p x £5 per penny stake
Your profits (or losses) = -£136.00 loss

Note: Kazakhmys Rolling Daily equities market correct as of 19-Oct-12.
