How to Spread Bet on K+S Aktiengesellschaft

How to Spread Bet on K+S Aktiengesellschaft?

If you decide to speculate on companies such as K+S Aktiengesellschaft then one solution is a spread bet on the K+S share price.

Logging onto Tradefair, we can see they are offering the K+S Rolling Daily market at €35.55 - €35.65. Therefore, an investor can spread bet on the K+S share price:

K+S Spread Trading Example Rising above €35.65, or
K+S Spread Betting Example Falling below €35.55

When spread betting on German shares you trade in £x per cent. So, if you risked £2 per cent and the K+S share price moves €0.22 then that would change your P&L by £44. £2 per cent x €0.22 = £44.

Note that you can also trade this market in Dollars or Euros, e.g. $x per cent.

Rolling Daily Equities Markets

It is important to note that this is a Rolling Daily Market and so there is no closing date for this market. Should your trade be left open at the end of the trading day, it will stay open and roll over into the next trading session.

If your position does roll over and you are speculating on the market to:

K+S Spread Betting Example Go up - then you'll normally be charged a small financing fee, or
K+S Spread Betting Example Go down - then you will usually receive a small credit to your account

For a worked example please see Rolling Daily Spread Betting.

K+S Rolling Daily - German Shares Spread Betting Example

Now, if we consider the above spread of €35.55 - €35.65 and make the assumptions that:
  • You've completed your analysis, and
  • Your analysis leads you to think that the K+S shares look like they will increase and go higher than €35.65
Then you might choose to buy a spread bet at €35.65 for a stake of £4 per cent.

With such a spread bet you win £4 for every cent that the K+S shares go above €35.65. Having said that, it also means that you will lose £4 for every cent that the K+S market falls below €35.65.

Considering this from another angle, if you buy a spread bet then your profit/loss is calculated by taking the difference between the final price of the market and the initial price you bought the market at. You then multiply that price difference by your stake.

As a result, if after a few sessions the shares rose then you might want to close your position to lock in your profit. Taking this a step further, if the market rose then the spread, set by the spread trading company, might change to €35.94 - €36.04. To close your position you would sell at €35.94. As a result, with the same £4 stake you would make a profit of:

Profits (or losses) = (Closing Price - Initial Price) x stake
Profits (or losses) = (€35.94 - €35.65) x £4 per cent stake
Profits (or losses) = €0.29 x £4 per cent stake
Profits (or losses) = 29c x £4 per cent stake
Profits (or losses) = £116 profit

Spread betting can work against you. In this example, you wanted the share price to increase. Of course, it might go down.

If the K+S share price weakened, against your expectations, then you could choose to close your spread bet in order to limit your losses.

If the spread fell to €35.33 - €35.43 then this means you would close your trade by selling at €35.33. If so, that would mean you would lose:

Profits (or losses) = (Closing Price - Initial Price) x stake
Profits (or losses) = (€35.33 - €35.65) x £4 per cent stake
Profits (or losses) = -€0.32 x £4 per cent stake
Profits (or losses) = -32c x £4 per cent stake
Profits (or losses) = -£128 loss
