How to Financial spreadbet on the Jo Burg?
As with many financial markets, you can financial spread bet the future value of Indices, like the Jo Burg, rising or falling.
As it stands, the Jo Burg market is 28835 - 28855 with Financial Spreads. The market expires on 20-Dec-07.
Therefore you can spread bet on the Jo Burg settling:
Above 28855, or
Below 28835
By the expiry date of 20-Dec-07.
With the Jo Burg Index, you trade in £x per point, where a point is 1 point of Jo Burg movement. eg if your stake was £3 per point and the Jo Burg moved 20 points then that would be a £60 difference to your P&L.
Jo Burg Spread betting Example
If we take the above spread of 28835 – 28855, let's say that you have done your homework and you think that the Jo Burg will go up to more than 28855 by 20-Dec-07.
Therefore you buy at 28855 for a stake of £1 per point.
Let's say that the market closes at 28905 on 20-Dec-07.
If so, then your profit and loss is found by taking the difference between the settlement value, ie 28905, and the price you bought the spread at, ie 28855 and then multiplying that by the stake per point.
P&L = (28905 - 28855) x £1 per point stake.
= 50 x £1 per point stake.
= £50 profit.
Nevertheless if the market did not move as expected and had the Jo Burg fallen and the market settled at a lower value of 28785, then you would have lost on this spread trade.
Loss = (28785 - 28855) x £1 per point stake.
= -70 x £1 per point stake.
= -£70 loss.
