How to Spread Bet on HBOS shares?
As with many equities markets, you can bet on HBOS shares to rise or fall. As it stands the HBOS (March) market is 706.4p - 709.1p with FinancialSpreads.com.
Therefore you can spread bet on HBOS shares settling:
- Above 709.1p, or
- Below 706.4p
By the expiry date of 18-Mar-08 (18-Mar-08 is the expiry date for the UK March Equities Futures markets).
Note that with HBOS shares, you trade in £X per penny, where a penny is 1p of HBOS share price movement. Eg if your stake was £10 per penny and the HBOS shares move 7p then that would be a £70 difference to your bottom line.
HBOS Spread Betting Example
So looking at an example, taking the above spread of 706.4p - 709.1p let’s say you have done your analysis and you think that the HBOS shares will rise to more than 709.1p by 18-Mar-08.
Therefore you buy at 709.1p for a stake of, let’s say, £3 per penny.
If by the expiry date the shares settle at 727.3p then:
Your profit is calculated by taking the difference between the closing price of 727.3p and the price you bought at, namely 709.1p, and then multiplying that by the stake per penny.
Profits = (727.3p - 709.1p) x £3 per penny stake
Profits = 18.2p x £3 per penny stake
= £54.60 profit.
But if the market didn't move as you expected and had the HBOS shares gone against your trade and closed lower at 689.4p then you would have lost on this trade.
Loss = (689.4p - 709.1p) x £3 per penny stake
Loss = -19.7p x £3 per penny stake
= -£59.10 loss.

Where can I Find Candlestick Charts for HBOS?
