Gold Spread Betting, 8 May 2009
Gold is oscillating once again. The very short term trend is upwards and yesterday we did trade above the $920 level only to reject it again. At the time of writing we’re at $913.5.

Gold rallied yesterday but is flat so far this morning and we are currently near the resistance that it failed to break through on Tuesday. We are sitting at $912 at the time of writing.

Gold once again disappointed bulls yesterday. An attempt at pushing higher only reached $910-$915 before being swiftly rejected. Once again we are hovering around the $900 level. If the precious metal does break through $910-15 then that could open up a test of $950.

The dollar weakness has provided further support for gold which made a strong run at the $900 level.
Currently we are back above $900 which is encouraging for the bulls but resistance is not far off. The precious metal has been trading in a small range since the beginning of April with the $915-$920 area keeping a cap on things and $865 providing the support.
It would seem that some major players are no longer partaking in the moves recently. Perhaps the major deleveraging has meant that we may not see the sort of big swings we had come accustomed to in many of the commodity markets.

Gold Spread Betting, 1 May 2009
Gold once again rejected the $900 level to dip to $880 before bouncing back to 4890. Gold seems to be suffering from what the equity market had recently ie a bout of “rangeitis” and this morning is at $885.5.

The dollar weakness and rally in equities allowed gold to regain some of its losses from earlier in the week, but the $900 level was once again rejected and at the time of writing we’re at $898.0. Clients did well out of yesterday’s move higher and expect further gains as they remain vehemently bullish.

Gold continues to oscillate around the $890 mark. It is a little bit of a surprise that we are not higher than the current $895 considering the dollar weakness of the last two days and concern over Swine Flu. This is a concern for bulls, the weakness of the past few days has been seen as a buying opportunity for clients who remain long expecting a move back above $900.

As a result of the dollar’s strength, gold is back below $900 failing to hold onto gains again. That is providing a small buying opportunity for clients who have been long of the precious metal and buying on this weakness.

Last week Gold closed last week up $42.00 at $910.10 (up 4.84%).
Today, oddly enough, Gold seems quite restrained given its usual ‘last resort’ status. The metal has only moved a few dollars higher overnight to $913, still well up from the lows of last week but seemingly not affected by the normal ‘fear and greed’ of recent years. It is tempting to suggest that a good hedge against other asset classes would be a ‘buy gold’ scenario.
