Gold continues to make new highs although the early morning peak yesterday at $1226 was never seriously challenged through the rest of the session.
For the moment we are seeing selling from clients at prices north of $1215 but punters appear nervous of a sell off taking us under the 1200 mark.
Unlike the $800, $900 and $1000 talismanic levels $1100 and $1200 seem to have been passed without any real problems.
The acceleration over the last few months in the Gold markets is remarkably similar to the March/May move of 06 and Oct/March 07/08. Both of these saw sharp pull backs before regaining the upward momentum and there seems a slight feeling from our longer term ‘longs’ that they do not want to add to positions above here.
Resistance and support is now necessarily quite wide, as the market has moved so much, but we are seeing minor support at $1201/1204 and $1195 and resistance at $1214 and $1220.

Gold has reached $1226 this morning and our clients continue to buy, the never ending rally in precious metals shows no signs of petering out and dealers are not discouraged at all by the heady levels.
The target for the ultra bulls remains $1400 and this is a good deal closer now that when it was first mentioned but it must be mentioned that it is getting a bit cold up here and we must wonder at what point the product will run out of oxygen to fuel the rally.

The appetite for risk continues to look good for gold which has burst through the $1200 level to new dizzy heights.
As it turns out, the Dubai correction presented a massive buying opportunity. However, it does show how the markets are prone to sharp declines that could shake out many bulls and compound moves to the downside.
That’s the risk of getting in at these levels. Whilst the upside returns could be fantastic, investors must have the stomach for possible shocks to the downside. These could be as much as 5% in a couple of hours, just as we saw last Friday.
Gold’s move higher comes despite mixed fortunes for the Dollar this morning which, on the whole, is stronger against other currencies. Still, this is only just and the Dollar index is hovering over its lows around the 74.200 mark.

Gold seems strangely attracted to the $1170-1190 level, after the excitement of last Friday, and in the current trading patterns the technical chartists are making hay in the sun.
With the weakness in the Dollar, Gold is attempting to break higher, again, with the spot price now at $1185, up 5 Dollars overnight.
As mentioned, ad nauseam in these comments over the last year, Gold continues to benefit from an almost perfect storm of weak currencies, minimal interest rates, fears about future inflation and fears about financial stability.
None of these worries looks like going away any time soon and so the march higher goes on. Not only this but the big commodity traders are apparently massively long as well. It is a brave man who disagrees with John Paulson.

Gold hasn’t moved at all this morning. A rare sight considering Friday’s action which saw wild swings, reminding us just how much the price is susceptible to a sharp correction if all of a sudden the bulls run for the exit.

Gold has had its biggest one day fall of the year so far today and this has always been the risk following its relentless climb higher.
Now back at $1150.0 clients have been dipping back in, but in small sizes as such a correction can easily be followed by another move to the downside. With a low of $1137.4 so far today, bears will be targeting $1130.0 next.

As the Dollar weakened, Gold rather neatly covered the range to our high target mark, $1194 mentioned in yesterday’s and last weeks comment, before slipping slightly in morning trade today.
We are currently quoting $1185.0-$1185.5 and while it would be a brave man who actually went short at these levels, we have finally seen our clients flatten out of their longs in the late trading session last night.
Our clients have been long for much of the move from the break above $1000, as they have been for most of the huge rally of the last few years.
Occasionally there is a pause for breath and this may be one of them. As mentioned in the previous comment, we have had eleven up days in a row culminating in the surge of 27 bucks yesterday.
While it is difficult to be negative in the face of such committed buying across the globe this does not mean that we can see the moves as being permanently one directional.
Gold is trading almost pip for pip versus the Dollar index, mainly the Euro and Yen component, as dealers try to gauge the pressure release assets of the Dollar/Yuan currency fixing.

Gold has hit its first target level, mentioned last week, at $1175, in fact overnight it spiked to $1180, and bulls will be eyeing the next barrier at $1194.
The rolling gold contract has now had eleven straight up days which even in the current six year bull market is a record.
While this eleven day run is extraordinary it has not actually forced an extreme ‘blow out’ day.
Buyers are finding the push higher very easy as nobody is risking short positions and so any purchase seems to be generating another purchase and so on.
At some point the elastic band effect will snap back but probably not today!

Gold remains the purchase of choice for many as a quasi Dollar hedge versus the Yuan, Yen and Euro and this state of affairs is difficult to forecast and end of.
The big players are monumentally long of the yellow metal which causes a rally all on its own, although you do sometimes worry that the big beasts only reveal their hand when they want to exit from it.

Gold is, unsurprisingly, benefiting from the Dollar's weakness which is adding to the late spike on Friday night. Now into record highs once again the rally looks unstoppable with very few pull backs that are short lived when they occur and the counter rally extending the precious metal further and further higher.
Gold closed last week up $38.25 at $1,142.25 (up 3.46% week-on-week).
