Gold tried to rally yesterday but could not summon the energy in the end and slipped back to the closing levels of Monday. This morning the sellers are out again and we are slipping towards the $765 level.
As readers of this comment over the year will know I have never been a believer in the 1000/2000 gold valuations. The recent failure of the last rally to get near to the previous moves highs would seem to confirm that the precious metal is still in a bear trend. Bulls will be hoping that the strong volume support between $715 and $765 can hold the market up. If it does then we may see the formation of a bottom but at the moment the test seems to be to the downside once more.

Gold rallied yesterday on not much info but is slipping today. At $780 we really need to get back above the $800 mark soon to regain positive momentum. The longer we remain under here the greater the chance of a retest of the $650 to $750 range.

Gold has been particularly quite this morning and overnight despite the geo-political tensions of the past few days. Resistance is seen around $817 with support at $809. With such a quiet day expected it’s unlikely either level will be tested today.

Gold, having broken back above $800 is also pausing for breath. $822 seems a top at the moment with $807 a support. But this is a very narrow range for such a volatile instrument so we may see an attempt on either side through this session.

The dollar weakness of recent days has led to a rally in gold. Gold is now back above $814 much to the benefit of our clients whose love affair with the precious metal does not seem to have ended.
With the fundamentals not looking all that rosy for gold at the moment (inflation is falling, the dollar has been recovering and demand from Asian markets is expected to fall) the recent rally has come as rather a surprise.
Many commentators have become bearish of gold recently but one cannot underestimate its allure and strength as a safe haven in troubled times.
