UK Share Trading
- FTSE 100 surged 1.8% to close at 5,767.0.
- Miners, Antofagasta, Anglo American and Vedanta Resources soared between 4.5% and 5.0%, tracking higher base metal prices.
- Financial stocks, Barclays, Lloyds Banking group and RBS climbed between 3.8% and 4.6%, after Spain sold more than the targeted amount of bills at the debt auction.
- AMEC rose 4.4%, in line with a rise in crude oil prices.
- ITV rose 3.9%, after Exane BNP Paribas raised its recommendations on the stock to “Outperform” from “Neutral”.
- Burberry Group sank 5.9%, after the company’s first-quarter sales fell short of market expectations.
- Marks and Spencer fell 2.5%, after the company announced that its fourth-quarter sales fell 0.7 %.
