Market Summary
- FTSE 100 edged up 0.1% to settle at 5,702.4.
- FTSEurofirst 300 index closed marginally higher to 1,034.6.
- DJIA gained 0.8% to close at 12,579.0. NASDAQ surged 1.5% to end at 2,769.7. S&P 500 rose 1.1% to settle at 1,308.0.
- Nikkei 225 index is trading 1.2% higher, at 8,650.1.
- In Asia, crude oil for February delivery is trading 1.9% or 90 cents higher at $101.49 per barrel.
- At 0400 BST today, the GBP is trading 0.1% higher against the USD at $1.5441, 0.1% higher against the EUR at €1.2003, and marginally higher against the JPY at ¥118.51.
