How to Spread Bet on Irish Shares - FBD Holdings Rolling Daily
If you decide to invest in European listed companies like FBD Holdings then one solution is to spread trade on the FBD Holdings share price.
If an investor was to look at the Tradefair website, they are currently pricing the FBD Holdings Rolling Daily market at €6.19 - €6.36. Therefore, an investor could spread trade on the FBD Holdings share price:
- Increasing above €6.36, or
- Decreasing below €6.19
When financial spread betting on Irish shares you trade in £x per cent. Therefore, if you decide to have a stake of £6 per cent and the FBD Holdings share price changes by €0.05 then there would be a difference to your profits of £30. £6 per cent x €0.05 = £30.

- Rise - then you will normally be charged a small financing fee, or
- Fall - then a small payment is often credited to your account

FBD Holdings Rolling Daily - Irish Shares Spread Trading Example
So, if we consider the spread of €6.19 - €6.36 and make the assumptions:
- you have done your research, and
- you think that the FBD Holdings shares will push higher than €6.36
then you may buy a spread bet at €6.36 and invest £3 per cent.
With such a bet you make a profit of £3 for every cent that the FBD Holdings shares increase and move above €6.36. On the other hand, you will lose £3 for every cent that the FBD Holdings market moves lower than €6.36.
Put another way, should you buy a spread bet then your profits are found by taking the difference between the final price of the market and the initial price you bought the spread at. You then multiply that difference in price by your stake.
As a result, if the stock started to rise you might decide to close your trade in order to guarantee your profit.
Therefore, if the market moved up then the spread, set by the financial spread betting company, might change to €6.77 - €6.94. You would close/settle your spread bet by selling at €6.77. Therefore, with the same £3 stake this trade would make you a profit of:
Profit = (Final Value - Opening Value) x stake
Profit = (€6.77 - €6.36) x £3 per cent stake
Profit = €0.41 x £3 per cent stake
Profit = 41c x £3 per cent stake
Profit = £123 profit
Trading shares, by spread trading or otherwise, may not go to plan. With this example, you had bet that the share price would increase. Nevertheless, it can also fall.
If the FBD Holdings share price dropped then you could close your position in order to limit your losses.
Should the spread pull back to €5.91 - €6.08 then this means you would close your position by selling at €5.91. Accordingly, your loss would be:
Loss = (Final Value - Opening Value) x stake
Loss = (€5.91 - €6.36) x £3 per cent stake
Loss = -€0.45 x £3 per cent stake
Loss = -45c x £3 per cent stake
Loss = -£135 loss
