How to Financial spread bet on the Euro Stoxx?
As with many markets, you can spread bet on the future value of Indices, like the Euro Stoxx, rising or falling.
The current price of the Euro Stoxx 50 (March) market is 4467 - 4470 with Capital Spreads. This market expires on 21-Mar-08.
Therefore you can financial spread trade on the Euro Stoxx settling:
- Above 4470 by 21-Mar-08, or
- Below 4467 by 21-Mar-08
For the Euro Stoxx market, you trade in £X per point, where a point is 1 point of Euro Stoxx movement. Eg if your stake was £10 per point and the Euro Stoxx market moves 6 points then that would be a £60 difference to your profits.
Euro Stoxx Spread Trading Example
For example, let's say taking the above spread of 4467 - 4470 that you have done your homework and think that the Euro Stoxx will rise to more than 4470 by 21-Mar-08.
Therefore you buy at 4470 for a stake of £5 per point.
If by the closing date the Index has a closing value of 4483. Then your profit is worked out by taking the difference between the settlement price of 4483 and the value you bought at, 4470, and then multiplying that by the stake per point.
Profits = (4483 - 4470) x £5 per point stake.
= 13 x £5 per point stake.
= £65 profit.
However if the market did not move as you predicted and had the Euro Stoxx gone against you and it finished lower at 4455, then you would have lost.
Loss = (4455 - 4470) x £5 per point stake.
= -15 x £5 per point stake.
= -£75 loss.

You can alter the charts to see market data by the minute, by the hour, by the week etc, plus many other settings to help you analyse the charts.
As you can see the charts show how the market's are not perfect and how you can expect the prices to "gap".
