How to Spread Bet on French Shares - EADS Rolling Daily
Should you decide to invest in companies such as EADS then one solution could be spread betting on the EADS share price.
If you were to look at the Paddy Power trading site, they are currently valuing the EADS Rolling Daily market at €18.40 - €18.45. This means you can spread bet on the EADS share price:
- Rising higher than €18.45, or
- Falling lower than €18.40
When financial spread betting on French equities you trade in £x per cent. As a result, if your stake was £4 per cent and the EADS shares move €0.05 then there would be a difference to your P&L of £20. £4 per cent x €0.05 = £20.
Note that you can also invest in this market in Dollars or Euros, e.g. €x per cent.
Rolling Daily Equities Markets
One important thing to note is that this is a 'Rolling Daily Market' and therefore it does not have a set settlement date. If your trade is open at the end of the day, it will just roll over into the next trading session.
If a trade is rolled over and you are spread betting on the market to:
- Move up - then you will often be charged a small financing fee, or
- Move down - then a small payment will usually be credited to your account

EADS Rolling Daily - French Equities Spread Trading Example
If you consider the spread of €18.40 - €18.45 and make the assumptions:
- you have done your market research, and
- it leads you to think that the EADS share price is likely to push above €18.45
then you may choose to go long of the market at €18.45 for a stake of, let’s say, £2 per cent.
With such a spread bet you win £2 for every cent that the EADS shares increase and move higher than €18.45. Having said that, you will lose £2 for every cent that the EADS market decreases lower than €18.45.
Considering this from another angle, should you ‘Buy’ a spread bet then your profits (or losses) are found by taking the difference between the settlement price of the market and the initial price you bought the spread at. You then multiply that difference in price by the stake.
As a result, if after a few trading sessions the shares started to move upwards then you could choose to close your position in order to secure your profit.
So if the market moved up then the spread, determined by the spread betting company, might change to €18.91 - €18.96. You would close your trade by selling at €18.91. So, with the same £2 stake you would make a profit of:
Your Profits (or losses) = (Settlement Value - Opening Value) x stake
Your Profits (or losses) = (€18.91 - €18.45) x £2 per cent stake
Your Profits (or losses) = €0.46 x £2 per cent stake
Your Profits (or losses) = 46c x £2 per cent stake
Your Profits (or losses) = £92 profit
Speculating on equities, by spread betting or otherwise, is not always simple. In this case, you had bet that the share price would rise. Of course, it can also decrease.
If the EADS share price had started to fall then you could choose to close your trade to limit your losses.
So if the spread pulled back to €18.04 - €18.09 then you would sell back your position at €18.04. So your loss would be calculated as:
Your Profits (or losses) = (Settlement Value - Opening Value) x stake
Your Profits (or losses) = (€18.04 - €18.45) x £2 per cent stake
Your Profits (or losses) = -€0.41 x £2 per cent stake
Your Profits (or losses) = -41c x £2 per cent stake
Your Profits (or losses) = -£82 loss

Where can I Find Candlestick Charts for EADS?
Like live prices, if you want to access candlestick charts for French shares then you generally need to open an account with a spread betting company that offers French shares. Note that accounts are subject to status.
If your application is approved then you can log on to their website and access their candlestick charts.
You can usually alter the charts to see market data by the tick, by the minute, by the hour, by the week etc. There are also other options that allow you to easily add analysis such as Moving Averages and Bollinger Bands.
As you can see the charts show how French share prices, as with most financial spread betting markets, are not perfect and how you can expect the prices to "gap".
