How to Online spread trade on the DAX?
As with many financial markets, you can spread bet on the future value of Indices, like the Dax, rising or falling.
At the moment the Dax 30 (December) market is 7994 - 7997 with Capital Spreads. This market expires on 21-Dec-07.
Therefore you can financial spread bet on the Dax settling:
Over 7997 by 21-Dec-07, or
Under 7994 by 21-Dec-07
Note that for the Dax 30, you trade in £x per point, where a point is 1 point of Dax movement. For example if your stake was £20 per point and the Dax moves 6 points then that would be a £120 difference to your profit and loss.
Dax Spread Betting Example
Let's say, taking the above spread of 7994 – 7997, that you have done your market research and think that the Dax 30 will finish 7997 by 21-Dec-07.
Therefore you buy at 7997 for a stake of £10 per point.
If by the settlement date the Index settles at 8017.
Then your profit / loss is calculated by taking the difference between the settlement value, ie 8017 and the price you bought the spread at, ie 7997, and then multiplying that by the stake per point of movement.
Profit and loss = (8017 - 7997) x £10 per point stake.
= 20 x £10 per point stake.
= £200 profit.
However if the market didn't work as expected and had the Dax gone down and the market settled at a lower than expected level of 7994, you would have lost on this market.
Loss = (7994 - 7997) x £10 per point stake.
= -3 x £10 per point stake.
= -£30 loss.

If you want to access quick live market information then you could do worse than opening an account with a firm like Financial Spreads.
Also, you don't have to trade with them, if you just open an account (which is free to do) then their data is free. The catch? You'll get the odd email or letter from them. In the example below you can also see that their free charts are also useful.
As mentioned above, you can get free charts with spread betting companies like Financial Spreads.
You can alter the charts to see market data by the minute, by the hour, by the week etc, plus many other settings to help you analyse the charts.
As you can see the charts show how the market's are not perfect and how you can expect the prices to "gap".

The DAX or Dax 30 is the index of the Germany's top 30 companies, in terms of order book volume and market capitalization. The index starts at 9.00am and ends with the prices from the Xetra (the Dax electronic trading system) closing auction at 5.30pm.
