To say that this week is all about the Fed isn’t being over-dramatic; a cut in rates is priced into the markets, but whether it will be a quarter or a half percent cut is the exciting bit. I reckon that markets will feel pretty disappointed if only a quarter is shaved off, but will a rally on a half-percentage point cut hold? Lloyds TSB and HBOS will give updates on their sub-prime exposure in the UK. Across the Atlantic, investment banks Lehman Brothers and Bear Sterns might provide further excitement with their fourth quarter updates.
