How to Spread Bet on French Shares - BNP Paribas Rolling Daily
If an investor decides to speculate on European listed companies such as BNP Paribas then one option is to spread trade on the BNP Paribas share price.
If an investor was to look at the Capitalspreads spread trading site, they are currently pricing the BNP Paribas Rolling Daily market at €55.16 - €55.32. This means an investor can spread bet on the BNP Paribas shares:
- Moving above €55.32, or
- Moving below €55.16
Whilst spread betting on French shares you trade in £x per cent. As a result, should you choose to invest £2 per cent and the BNP Paribas share price moves €0.05 then there would be a difference to your bottom line of £10. £2 per cent x €0.05 = £10.

Rolling Daily Shares Markets
One important thing to note is that this is a Rolling Daily Market and so it does not have a set closing date. If your trade is still open at the end of the trading day, it will just roll over into the next trading session.
Should your position roll over, if you are speculating that the market will:
- Move up - then you will normally be charged a small financing fee, or
- Move down - then you will usually receive a small credit to your account

BNP Paribas Rolling Daily - French Shares Spread Betting Example
Now, if you think about the above spread of €55.16 - €55.32 and make the assumptions that:
- you have done your analysis, and
- it leads you to think that the BNP Paribas shares will increase and go higher than €55.32
then you might decide that you want to buy at €55.32 for a stake of £1 per cent.
This means that you win £1 for every cent that the BNP Paribas shares rise above €55.32. Nevertheless, you will make a loss of £1 for every cent that the BNP Paribas market decreases lower than €55.32.
Considering this from another angle, should you buy a spread bet then your profits are found by taking the difference between the final price of the market and the initial price you bought the spread at. You then multiply that price difference by the stake.
With this in mind, if after a few hours the stock rose then you might consider closing your position so that you can secure your profit.
So if the market rose then the spread could change to €56.70 - €56.86. You would close your trade by selling at €56.70. Accordingly, with the same £1 stake you would make:
Profits (or losses) = (Closing Price - Initial Price) x stake
Profits (or losses) = (€56.70 - €55.32) x £1 per cent stake
Profits (or losses) = €1.38 x £1 per cent stake
Profits (or losses) = 138c x £1 per cent stake
Profits (or losses) = £138 profit
Financial spread trading can go against you. In the above example, you had bet that the share price would rise. Of course, the share price could go down.
If the BNP Paribas share price had started to fall then you might choose to close your position to stop any further losses.
Should the market drop to €54.10 - €54.26 then you would settle your spread bet by selling at €54.10. That would mean you would lose:
Profits (or losses) = (Closing Price - Initial Price) x stake
Profits (or losses) = (€54.10 - €55.32) x £1 per cent stake
Profits (or losses) = -€1.22 x £1 per cent stake
Profits (or losses) = -122c x £1 per cent stake
Profits (or losses) = -£122 loss
