How to Spread Bet on Dutch Shares - ASML Holding Rolling Daily
Should an investor decide to speculate on European listed companies such as ASML Holding then one solution could be spread betting on the ASML Holding share price.
If an investor was to look at the Tradefair spread trading site, they are showing the ASML Holding Rolling Daily market at €24.72 - €24.79. This means you could spread trade on the ASML Holding share price:
- Increasing higher than €24.79, or
- Decreasing lower than €24.72
When spread betting on Dutch shares you trade in £x per cent. So, if you chose to invest £4 per cent and the ASML Holding share price moves €0.05 then that would be a difference to your profit/loss of £20. £4 per cent x €0.05 = £20.

Rolling Daily Equities Markets
You should note that this is a Rolling Daily Market which means that there is no closing date for this market. If your trade is still open at the end of the trading day, it will roll over to the next session.
If your trade does roll over and you are speculating on the market to:
- Increase - then you are charged a small overnight financing fee, or
- Decrease - then you will often receive a small payment to your account

ASML Holding Rolling Daily - Dutch Equities Spread Betting Example
If you think about the above spread of €24.72 - €24.79 and make the assumptions:
- you have analysed the equities market, and
- it leads you to think that the ASML Holding shares look like they will increase and go above €24.79
then you could buy a spread bet at €24.79 for a stake of, for the sake of argument, £2 per cent.
Therefore, you make a profit of £2 for every cent that the ASML Holding shares move higher than €24.79. However, you will lose £2 for every cent that the ASML Holding market moves lower than €24.79.
Looking at this from another angle, if you buy a spread bet then your profits (or losses) are calculated by taking the difference between the settlement price of the market and the price you bought the market at. You then multiply that price difference by your stake.
With this in mind, if after a few hours the shares rose then you might consider closing your position in order to secure your profit.
So if the market rose then the spread might change to €25.35 - €25.42. You would close your spread bet by selling at €25.35. So, with the same £2 stake your profit would be:
Profit / loss = (Settlement Price - Opening Price) x stake
Profit / loss = (€25.35 - €24.79) x £2 per cent stake
Profit / loss = €0.56 x £2 per cent stake
Profit / loss = 56c x £2 per cent stake
Profit / loss = £112 profit
Trading equities, by spread betting or otherwise, is not always straightforward. In this example, you had bet that the share price would rise. However, it might fall.
If the ASML Holding stock began to drop then you might choose to close your trade to limit your losses.
So if the market dropped to €24.17 - €24.24 then this means you would close your position by selling at €24.17. If so, your loss would be calculated as:
Profit / loss = (Settlement Price - Opening Price) x stake
Profit / loss = (€24.17 - €24.79) x £2 per cent stake
Profit / loss = -€0.62 x £2 per cent stake
Profit / loss = -62c x £2 per cent stake
Profit / loss = -£124 loss
