How to Spread Bet on German Shares - Allianz Rolling Daily
Should an investor want to speculate on European companies like Allianz then one solution could be spread betting on the Allianz share price.
If an investor was to look at the capital spreads site, they are currently showing the Allianz Rolling Daily market at €84.49 - €84.72. This means you can spread trade on the Allianz share price:
- Increasing above €84.72, or
- Decreasing below €84.49
Whilst financial spread betting on German equities you trade in £x per cent. So, if you choose to have a stake of £4 per cent and the Allianz share price moves €0.05 then that would make a difference to your P&L of £20. £4 per cent x €0.05 = £20.
You are also able to spread bet on this market in Euros or Dollars, e.g. €x per cent.
Rolling Daily Shares Markets
This is a Rolling Daily Market which means that there is no closing date for this market. If your position is still open at the end of the day, it just rolls over to the next trading session.
If a bet is rolled over and you are speculating on the market to:
- Go up - then you usually pay a small overnight financing fee, or
- Go down - then a small payment is usually credited to your account

Allianz Rolling Daily - German Equities Spread Betting Example
So, if you consider the above spread of €84.49 - €84.72 and assume that:
- you have done your market analysis, and
- it leads you to think that the Allianz shares will go higher than €84.72
then you may decide that you are going to buy at €84.72 and invest, for the sake of argument, £2 per cent.
This means that you win £2 for every cent that the Allianz shares rise above €84.72. Nevertheless, it also means that you will make a loss of £2 for every cent that the Allianz market falls below €84.72.
Put another way, if you were to ‘Buy’ a spread bet then your profits are worked out by taking the difference between the settlement price of the market and the initial price you bought the spread at. You then multiply that price difference by your stake.
With this in mind, if after a few sessions the share price started to increase then you might want to close your spread bet in order to secure your profit.
So if the market moved up then the spread, set by the spread betting company, could change to €85.42 - €85.65. You would close your position by selling at €85.42. As a result, with the same £2 stake your profit would be calculated as:
Profit = (Final Price - Initial Price) x stake
Profit = (€85.42 - €84.72) x £2 per cent stake
Profit = €0.70 x £2 per cent stake
Profit = 70c x £2 per cent stake
Profit = £140 profit
Speculating on shares, whether by spread betting or otherwise, is not always straightforward. In this case, you had bet that the share price would rise. Nevertheless, it could decrease.
If the Allianz shares began to fall then you could close your position to stop any further losses.
So if the spread pulled back to €83.96 - €84.19 then this means you would close your spread bet by selling at €83.96. That would mean you would make a loss of:
Loss = (Final Price - Initial Price) x stake
Loss = (€83.96 - €84.72) x £2 per cent stake
Loss = -€0.76 x £2 per cent stake
Loss = -76c x £2 per cent stake
Loss = -£152 loss
