How to Spread Bet on Dutch Shares - Aegon Rolling Daily
If an investor decides to speculate on European listed companies such as Aegon then one option could be to spread trade on the Aegon share price.
Looking at the FinancialSpreads.com website, they are giving the Aegon Rolling Daily market at €4.42 - €4.44. This means you could spread trade on the Aegon share price:
- Going higher than €4.44, or
- Going lower than €4.42
Whilst placing a spread bet on Dutch shares you trade in £x per cent. So, if you staked £10 per cent and the Aegon share price changes by €0.05 then there would be a difference to your profits (or losses) of £50. £10 per cent x €0.05 = £50.
You are also able to spread bet on this market in Dollars or Euros, e.g. €x per cent.
Rolling Daily Shares Markets
One important thing to note is that this is a Rolling Daily Market and so there is no preset settlement date for this market. Should your trade be left open at the end of the trading day, it simply rolls over to the next session.
If you do roll over a position and you are spread betting that the market will:
- Go up - then you will be charged a small overnight financing fee, or
- Go down - then a small payment is normally credited to your account

Aegon Rolling Daily - Dutch Equities Spread Trading Example
If you consider the spread of €4.42 - €4.44 and assume:
- you have done your analysis of the markets, and
- it leads you to think that the Aegon share price will increase and move higher than €4.44
then you may decide that you want to buy a spread bet at €4.44 and invest £5 per cent.
So, you gain £5 for every cent that the Aegon shares increase and go above €4.44. Nevertheless, such a bet also means that you will lose £5 for every cent that the Aegon market goes below €4.44.
Put another way, if you were to ‘Buy’ a spread bet then your profits (or losses) are worked out by taking the difference between the settlement price of the market and the initial price you bought the market at. You then multiply that price difference by your stake.
As a result, if after a few hours the share price started to move upwards then you could choose to close your spread bet in order to secure your profit.
If that happened then the spread, set by the spread betting company, might move up to €4.63 - €4.65. You would settle your position by selling at €4.63. As a result, with the same £5 stake your profit would be calculated as:
Your P&L = (Closing Level - Initial Level) x stake
Your P&L = (€4.63 - €4.44) x £5 per cent stake
Your P&L = €0.19 x £5 per cent stake
Your P&L = 19c x £5 per cent stake
Your P&L = £95 profit
Trading shares, whether by spread betting or not, can go against you. In this case, you wanted the share price to increase. Naturally, the share price can also go down.
If the Aegon shares weakened, against your expectations, then you might decide to settle/close your position to stop any further losses.
So if the market fell to €4.22 - €4.24 then you would settle your trade by selling at €4.22. If so, your loss would be calculated as:
Your P&L = (Closing Level - Initial Level) x stake
Your P&L = (€4.22 - €4.44) x £5 per cent stake
Your P&L = -€0.22 x £5 per cent stake
Your P&L = -22c x £5 per cent stake
Your P&L = -£110 loss

Where can I Find Candlestick Charts for Aegon?
