How to Spread Bet on Accor? |
If an investor decides to invest in firms like Accor then one option is to spread bet on the Accor share price.
Logging onto Tradefair, we can see they are pricing the Accor Rolling Daily market at €28.30 - €28.37. As a result, you can spread bet on the Accor shares:
Moving higher than €28.37, or
Moving lower than €28.30
Whilst spread betting on French equities you trade in £x per cent. As a result, if you decided to risk £3 per cent and the Accor shares move €0.25 then that would make a difference to your bottom line of £75. £3 per cent x €0.25 = £75.
Note that you can also invest in this market in Dollars or Euros, e.g. $x per cent.
Rolling Daily Equities Markets
One important thing to note is that this is a 'Rolling Daily Market' and therefore there is no preset settlement date for this market. You do not have to close your trade, should it still be open at the end of the trading day, it will just roll over into the next day.
If you do let your bet roll over into the next day and are spread betting on the market to:
Go up - then you are charged a small overnight financing fee, or
Go down - then you'll normally receive a small credit to your account
You can learn more in our feature Rolling Daily Spread Betting.
Accor Rolling Daily - French Equities Spread Betting Example |
Now, if we take the spread of €28.30 - €28.37 and assume:
- You've done your research, and
- Your analysis suggests the Accor share price will increase and go above €28.37
Then you might go long of the market at €28.37 for a stake of £4 per cent.
With such a bet you make a profit of £4 for every cent that the Accor shares increase and move higher than €28.37. However, such a bet also means that you will make a loss of £4 for every cent that the Accor market goes lower than €28.37.
Considering this from another angle, should you ‘Buy’ a spread bet then your profit/loss is found by taking the difference between the closing price of the market and the price you bought the spread at. You then multiply that price difference by the stake.
With this in mind, if after a few sessions the stock started to rise you might decide to close your spread bet so that you can secure your profit.
Taking this a step further, if the market rose then the spread, determined by the spread betting company, could be adjusted to €28.72 - €28.79. To close your trade you would sell at €28.72. Therefore, with the same £4 stake your profit would come to:
Profit / loss = (Final Price - Initial Price) x stake
Profit / loss = (€28.72 - €28.37) x £4 per cent stake
Profit / loss = €0.35 x £4 per cent stake
Profit / loss = 35c x £4 per cent stake
Profit / loss = £140 profit
Spread betting on shares can fail to go to plan. In the above example, you had bet that the share price would go up. Nevertheless, it could fall.
If the Accor shares began to drop then you might choose to close your trade to limit your losses.
If the market dropped to €28.05 - €28.12 then you would close your spread bet by selling at €28.05. As a result, your loss would be:
Profit / loss = (Final Price - Initial Price) x stake
Profit / loss = (€28.05 - €28.37) x £4 per cent stake
Profit / loss = -€0.32 x £4 per cent stake
Profit / loss = -32c x £4 per cent stake
Profit / loss = -£128 loss
